What's in a label?

Each pack of our palm-leaf plates or bowls comes with a label like this, with some basic information:

  • What the pack contains — tableware

  • The material used — Palm leaf

  • How many plates/bowls you'll find in the pack — usually 25

  • Our brand — Logos New Zealand

  • Our website — logosnz.com

  • That these plates were made in India and have a New Zealand connection

The label also tells you that these plates/bowls are fantastic — by using a series of popular words — eco-friendly, natural, biodegradable, compostable. We mean what we say.

  • Eco-friendly: Ecologically these plates make a lot of sense. You would find it nigh impossible to name a material more environmentally friendly to make disposable dinnerware out of — a brilliant alternative to plastic and paper. No trees were felled to make these plates.

  • Natural: When you hold a plate or bowl in your hand, you'll see natural patterns that one would expect to see on the sheath of a palm leaf. Then turn the plate over and you will be completely convinced that it is indeed a portion of leaf that you are holding in your hands.

  • Biodegradable and Compostable: When we say this, we mean that you can dispose used plates in the compost bin in your yard and that they will break down quickly, unlike other products claiming to be compostable but requiring a commercial composting system to properly break down.

  • Free from chemicals, bleach, and toxins: These plates/bowls have not been treated with any chemicals. The washed leaves have been simply heat-pressed in moulds. The manufacturing method is as simple as that.

Finally our label throws in a few more advantages

  • You can bake in them in a conventional oven. Erring on the side of caution, we stayed with 180 degrees Celsius (350 degrees Fahrenheit). We actually baked potato wedges on a plate to be sure.

  • The plates perform well in the freezer.

  • You can pop them into the microwave, so perfect for reheating food.
